Cynthia "Cindy" R. McKee, 57, died July 27, 2011, at home with family-friends following a two-year battle with cancer.
Cindy was born August 16, 1953 in Austin, TX to C. R. "Dick" and Anna Belle (Davis) McKee. During her life, she lived in several areas as her dad made his way to Casper, WY with the oil business. She graduated from Natrona County High School in 1971. She went on to attend college at Casper Community College and the University of Northern Colorado. She received a bachelor's degree in English/Humanities secondary education with a minor in French. She also went on to get her master's degree in administration.
Cindy began her teaching career at Newcastle High School. She taught numerous courses; however, her passion was the humanities. During her career, Cindy was an assistant volleyball coach, the portfolio director, dean of students, and prom sponsor for many years. She had completed 35 years of teaching when she retired this spring.
Miss McKee will be most remembered for her quick, honest, and intelligent wit. In addition, she thrilled in giving everyone loving and special nicknames. These nicknames were the foundation of special connections with her students and staff. From this connection, many students learned to laugh and learn life-lessons from every day situations. Cindy's interests included spending time with her pets, shopping, going out to eat, traveling, enjoying the arts, reading, gardening, and decorating.
Cindy was a private person and requested cremation take place with no funeral services. However, former students are planning a celebration to honor the impact she has had on numerous lives at Crouch Auditorium on August 6, 2011 at 2:00PM. Fellowship will follow in the Commons.
In lieu of flowers, friends are establishing the Cynthia R. McKee scholarship fund to be given to Newcastle High School graduates. Donations can be sent to Renee Nack at 23282B US Hwy 85, Newcastle, WY 82701 or First State Bank of Newcastle at POB 910, Newcastle, WY 82701
