Beloved husband of Joan. Loving father of Dana Derek Marranca, Katie fiancé Eric Hoyer and the late Michael. Proud grandfather of Ben, Molly and Jamie. Dear brother of Richard the late Laura, Dennis and the late John. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Lucille. Michael and Joan married on December 27, 1969 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Madison Heights. The couple resided in Royal Oak. Mr. Johnston retired in 2009 from Ameritech, where he was employed as a Royal Oak-09 Cable Splicer. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing guitar and fishing. A volunteer at the Yankee Air Force Museum at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, he often worked at the many air shows there. He was a supporter of the Salvation Army Breakfast Club. Visitation Wednesday 5-8 p.m. and funeral Thursday 11 a.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. 4 blocks E. of Woodward, Royal Oak.
