Mary Ann was born April 18, 1945 to Esther O?Dell and Jay Brashear in Barnsdall, Okla. She grew up in various places around Oklahoma and South Dakota. She graduated from Riggs High School in Pierre.
Following graduation, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Kenneth Pitlick on Jan. 14, 1965. After enjoying five years of marriage together, the couple decided to adopt their first son, Cody Pitlick. Eight years later the couple welcomed the birth of their youngest son, Jonathan. Mary Ann loved both of her sons fiercely.
While living in Pierre Mary Ann began her career as a secretary for the state of South Dakota and later became the head secretary for Century MFG. She also drove a truck for a short time for her husband when he was in the construction business. But when her health began to decline Mary Ann began managing an assisted living complex.
During her time in Pierre Mary Ann was also active in Birthright, as well as foster care. Kenny and Mary Ann took several foster children and unwed mothers into their home to give them as much peace and love as they could provide.
In 1996 Mary Ann moved to Newcastle with her husband. Soon afterward her sons followed. While living in Newcastle Mary Ann enjoyed making friends with neighbors, women in the Catholic Church, and people she traveled to dialysis with.
As her diabetes began to take over her body, her personality and spirit stayed strong as she continued to touch lives. Mary Ann was a gentle, kind and caring person, with a unique intuition about people?s feelings. She always wanted the best for everyone, especially those who were lucky enough to be called her friend. She was a very compassionate person who loved life. She brought joy and love to everyone who was blessed to know her.
But above all, Mary Ann was devoted to her family. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with various family members, playing with her grandchildren, listening to music, as well as sharing stories and jokes. She loved long, quiet afternoons that were spent visiting for hours about everything, and about nothing.
And, of course, nobody could ever resist the big smile she always had on her face.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, Jay Brashear, one nephew, Clint Caudill and various aunts and uncles.
Those who were blessed to know and love Mary Ann include her husband, Kenneth Pitlick; her mother and stepfather, Esther and Sam Thompson; brothers George ?Homer? and Danny Brashear; sister Linda Brashear, sons Cody Jody Pitlick, and Jonathan Wendy Pitlick; grandchildren and step-grandchildren Tesla, Jean, Diego, TaKeya, Mariana and TaShawna; and a host of family and friends.
