Mary Ellas

Mary Ellas, age 90, a resident of Shelby Township, passed away August 23, 2014 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. Mary was born April 18, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to George and Helen Abdullah. Marry was the youngest child of a large family. She was married August 8, 1948 to her husband Pete at Christ Episcopal Church in downtown Detroit. Mary enjoyed reading, gardening, and shopping. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a very spiritual woman who used her talents to help others. Mary was a Stephen Minister assisting people with prayer and counseling at her church. She also worked as a minister at a prison. Mary is a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica, Michigan, Beloved wife of Pete Ellas for 65 years. Loving mother of Christine Dr. Michael Kurzawa. Grandmother of Katie Neil Patel, Charles VanDewyngearde and Alex Kurzawa. Visitation Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road, 3 blocks East of Van Dyke Utica, Michigan 48317. Funeral service Friday, August 29, 2014 11:00 a.m. instate 12:00 p.m. Funeral Service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 45160 Van Dyke Avenue, Utica, Michigan 48317.Private interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly Township, Michigan.
