Mary's family were pioneers and homesteaders. She spent her whole life living on the ranch where several generations were raised over a period of 100 plus years. Mary attended Sweet School on Beaver Creek, then graduated from Newcastle High School. She went to college in Denver and studied business. On March 4, 1946, she married Jack V. B. Capps. They raised their three sons, Mike, Bill and Dave on the ranch which was the gathering place for many community events and family picnics. All children loved playing in the creek that ran through the yard. Mary welcomed all who came. There was always an abundance of food, fun and fellowship. Love of family defined her.  Mary was a working mother who was able to balance her role as a wife, mother and daughter while being actively involved in her church, community, and career. The focal point of her career was being a legal secretary for many years. She also worked for the BLM and many other jobs. As a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church, she was a Sunday school teacher, vestry member, worship leader, treasurer and also held many positions in the Diocese of Wyoming. Mary found her calling in reaching out to the community as a founding member of Hospice, Home Loving Care and B.R.E.A.D. She helped create a strong senior support system in Newcastle. Her outreach went further into the state by starting the Alzheimer's Association in Wyoming and serving on the Governor's Council on Aging. To share her passion for history, Mary started the Anna Miller Museum complete with a Mobile History Lab which she drove to all area schools making history come alive to children. This combined her passion for history, education and love of children. Spending many years on the Weston County Historical Preservation Committee with close friend, Lucille Dumbrill, they got numerous Newcastle buildings listed on the National Register. Mary was also instrumental in preserving an historic cabin at Mallo Camp. She was a longtime member of Weston County Cowbelles, Busy Beavers Social Club and PEO among others. Those who knew her are quick to tell that Mary was a very accomplished woman and a pioneer in many areas. She received many awards too numerous to mention. She never considered any project to be "work" because to her, she was just "having fun". If a job needed to be done, Mary was there. She never sought recognition for herself and spent a lifetime reaching out to others. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and a son. Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Moore of Yuma, AZ; Marge Huber of Newcastle; son, Mike (Jan) of Casper; son, Dave (Jane) of Newcastle; five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Christ Episcopal Church or the Anna Miller Museum. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Meridian Mortuary 111 S. Railroad Ave, Newcastle, WY 82701. Condolences may also be expressed at www.meridianmortuary.com
