Mary V. Baker, age 88, a 57-year resident of Royal Oak, died peacefully at home with her oldest son and husband by her side. She was a loving wife and devoted mother of six. Mary served in the Navy during World War II. She held numerous offices in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Purple Heart and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She introduced the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup into the Detroit area. She loved learning literature and received her B.A. from Wayne State University in 1995. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Baker, in 2005; and grandson, John Strauss, in 2006. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert; children, Elizabeth Chuck Strauss, James Liz Baker, Paul Baker, Grace Marty Adams and Mark Kim Baker; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The visitation will be Sunday 1-8 p.m. with a 3 p.m. scripture service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mrs. Baker will lie in state Monday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Royal Oak. The burial will take place at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.
