Marvin J. Stayman, age 97, a 15-year resident of Clawson, formerly a 40-year resident of Novi, died November 19, 2012 at the American House in Royal Oak. He was born August 26, 1915 in Detroit to the late William and Rose Stayman. Mr. Stayman was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in the South Pacific. He owned and operated the Great Lakes Dental Laboratory in Detroit for more than 30 years. He was a lifelong organic gardener and an avid roller skater. He also was extremely interested in alternative medicine and reading articles on investments. He is survived by his children, Susan Ronald Stayman-Stempky of Clawson, Mary Stayman-Schenk of Allegan, MI and Joseph M. Cheryl Stayman of Traverse City; grandchildren, Christopher, Randy and Robin Schenk, Emily and Cara Stempky, Elizabeth and Sarah Stayman; niece, Julie Evans; and nephew, Gerald Cynthia Stayman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy McHale Stayman, on August 26, 2011; the couple married July 10, 1943 in Riverside, CA. He was also predeceased by his brother, Wilbur "Bill" Stayman. The visitation will be Friday 2-8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Rosary at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mr. Stayman will lie in state Saturday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Oak Park. The burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Royal Oak. Memorials to the Salvation Army or American House Foundation are appreciated.
