Maria Kaiser

October 26, 1936 — February 16, 2024

Mia was born in Erlangen Germany where she was raised until the age of 21. She lived in Newcastle, WY, most of her life. Mia went peacefully to be with The Lord at the age of 87 at the Weston County Manor in Newcastle, WY.

She grew up in Germany during WWII. This was not an easy time in this world. She would hide from the Nazis in a root cellar with her mother and her siblings. There wasn’t much to eat in the root cellar so they would squeeze the juice from potatoes to get nourishment for the baby. She was a survivor. She was married in Germany to Peter Kaiser. Peter immigrated to the United States where he worked and saved enough money for Mia’s boat fare and at the age of 21, she came to the United States. After Mia came to the United States, Peter and Mia had two children (Angela and Sonya). Mia helped raise her children and taught herself how to read, write, and speak English. After a long marriage Peter and Mia divorced. She took on jobs cleaning motel rooms and continued to maintain her home and raise her children. A little later in life she took on the responsibility of helping raise Peter Kaiser Jr., the son of her former husband. She loved  and cared for Peter as one of her own. She also loved and cared for Whitney Ames, the daughter of her former husband, as one of her own. She would take the children on picnics and visit waterfalls in Spearfish Canyon or just sightseeing trips through the nearby Black Hills. The children just loved spending the whole day with her. She was such an amazing mother, she nurtured, taught, and cared about us all so incredibly much. She was strong, vibrant, and versatile.

She made friends quickly and had numerous lifelong friendships. Some of her friends were German speaking. They would have a blast carrying on while speaking in German. She was an excellent cook who embraced her German heritage and would make excellent green chili, roulade, cabbage rolls, potato dumplings and many other German dishes that everyone enjoyed. She was a very considerate person. If there was only one piece of pie left on the table, she would give it to another and would go without for herself. She would give the shirt off her back if someone needed it. She was a loving, giving, kind and caring person and would lend an ear to anyone needing someone to listen. Her blue eyes, her smile, and her soft voice would just melt your heart. She loved her pet dog named “Cookie” as well as all pets and she loved to watch the birds flying around her birdfeeder from her window. After a lengthy battle with severe arthritis, Mia moved to Mondell Heights Assisted Living Facility in Newcastle, WY and a few years later was admitted to the Weston County Manor in Newcastle, WY.

She is survived by her two children, Angie (Dave) Feist and Sonya Kaiser, her granddaughter Christie Green and two great-grandchildren, Zachery Green and Presley Green. She was also survived by her best friend who helped take care of her for many years, Mona Eutsler. Mona and Mia loved each other so much. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband Peter Kaiser, two brothers, and her grandson, Chistopher Feist. She loved them all dearly and they all loved her dearly.

Visitation will be Friday, February 23, at Meridian Mortuary from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for family and public visitation from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 11 a.m. at Meridian Mortuary. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle, WY. Flowers can be ordered from Treasured Floral in Newcastle.

She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing. Mia made the world a better place for her having been here.
