Louis Shook

Memorial services for lifelong Newcastle resident, Louis M. ?Louie? Shook, 79, will be held at 3:30 pm Thursday, April 26th at Newcastle Seniors? Center with Pastors Charles Dutcher and Bill Haley of Four Corners Country Church officiating. The family prefers memorial contributions to Weston County Health Services?Home Health Services, Four Corners Country Church, or Weston County Seniors? Center. Burial will follow at a later date.
Louis died Sunday, April 22nd at his home in Newcastle following an illness of cancer.
He was born August 18, 1927 on the Shook homestead on Wildcat Creek in the Hampshire community Southwest of Newcastle. He was the son of Weston County pioneers Robert Harrison and Charity Kathryn Mulch Shook. He was a graduate of Newcastle High School. On December 4, 1949 he married Anna Rose Bohlender at Platteville, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He was also employed with Mountain Bell Telephone Company as a telephone repairman for over thirty years, assisted his son Jake Shook with his logging business, and as an electrician with John Keller. On June 29, 2001, he married Velma Schneider at Newcastle.
He had a lifelong love of music and dancing. He would dance whenever he heard music, wherever he was. He also loved horses and roping. Louie was friendly, honest, humble, hardworking, caring, and personable and had a great sense of humor. He never met a stranger. His family always came first.
He was a member of Weston County Roping Club, Newcastle Masonic Lodge #13, and the Jay Cees.
Surviving him are his loving wife Velma Shook of Newcastle; children Jake Shook of Newcastle and Kathy Jack Duce of Pincher Creek Alberta, Canada, Karen David Shook Daum of Seabrook, TX. Kathy?s children Jimmi Gordon, Kristi, Tyler, and Jill; and Karen?s children Jeremy, Karl and Zach. One sister, Alta Mae Leonard Sheaman and brother Ben Shook. Also surviving are step children Maxine Lyn Bender of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and their children David Alisa and Penny Tony, Walter ?Buddy? Linda Schneider of Gillette and their children Angie, Chris, Shad, Tiffany and Tara; THE LATE Bernice Bob and their children Barry Becky and Brenda Travis and twelve great grandchildren, also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his first wife Anna Rose, parents Robert and Kathryn Shook, and brothers George, Harrison and John.
