Our beloved son, father, brother, uncle, friend, Louis Joseph Schiappacasse, IV, age 66, a resident of Salida, Colorado, passed away due to complications of lymphoma March 6, 2014. He was surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 4, 1947 eldest of five children in Detroit to Jane Elizabeth nee Henson and the late Louis Joseph Schiappacasse, III. Mr. Schiappacasse graduated Cum Laude from the University of Detroit with a Bachelors of Science in humanities, natural and social sciences. He taught in Detroit public and private schools, and upon changing residency to Colorado, continued teaching in Denver private schools. He furthered his education at a Masters level studying counseling, psychology and public affairs. He was employed by St. Luke's Hospital, Denver, as a substance use therapist, and touched the lives of many through self-help programs in his hometown of Salida. He had an undeniable and humble way about him and could make anyone feel comfortable in his presence. He could make you feel special, no matter your circumstance. His brand of humor and intellect were unique and contributed to his exceptional skills as an educator. He reaped great joy applying his skills in service of those less fortunate. Everyone who knew him loved him and loved being around him. He was an avid crossword and Sudoku puzzle enthusiast, tackling Final Jeopardy every evening via phone conversations with his momma. He loved listening to Public Radio KRCC out of Colorado Springs, but most of all, he loved his family. He is survived by his mother; daughter, Anne Andrew Sherwood; sister, Judy Rose Richard Wilson; and nephews, Peter Calloway, Ryan Calloway and Noah Wilson. He was preceded in death by his father; siblings, Joseph Anthony Schiappacasse, Mary Helene Schiappacasse, RSM and Edward Newton Schiappacasse; niece, Rosella Schiappacasse; and nephew, Anthony Schiappacasse. There will be visitation Friday, March 14, 1-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak, MI. Mr. Schiappacasse will lie in state Saturday, March 15, 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 11 a.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Troy, MI. Entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit.
