Lilla Campbell

Lilla Cleo Upton Campbell, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Cedar Park, TX, on October 9, 2009. She was born in Sylvarena, MS on April 11, 1917, and at 15, moved with her family to Royal Oak, where she resided most of her life. In 1999 Cleo retired to Tucson, AZ, before moving to central Texas three years ago. Cleo was a member of the Royal Oak First Baptist Church for 75 years, and took great comfort in her faith. Cleo lived a rich, full life that revolved around her family and her church. She was enormously proud of all of her children and grandchildren. She found particular joy in all of her great-grandchildren during later years - her favorite pastime became looking at family pictures and hearing stories about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved being with family and friends. Cleo is survived by her three children, Jo Anne Campbell Cochran of Georgetown, TX, Donald Stuart Patricia Campbell of Royal Oak and Dr. James Norman Dr. Regina Anderson Campbell of Baltimore, MD; her brother, Sidney Banks Upton of Royal Oak; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Cleo's husband, James "Jim" Stuart Campbell, predeceased her April 14, 1980; they were married in 1938 and raised their three children in Royal Oak. She was also predeceased by N. Kidd Upton, W. Earl Upton, W.D. Upton, Hanna Grace Upton and P. Inez Goodsen. Visitation Friday 2-8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road 4 blocks E. of Woodward, Royal Oak. Services of celebration of Cleo's life will be held at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Royal Oak, with the Rev. Dr. David Nichols officiating, followed by graveside services at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy, where Cleo will be laid to rest next to her husband Jim. A family luncheon will follow at Red Run Golf Club.
