Lewis R. Rutledge, age 86, a longtime resident of Royal Oak, died July 2, 2009 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born March 19, 1923 in Highland Park. Mr. Rutledge was a member of the Plumbers Local 98. He was a World War II U.S. Marine veteran in the 2nd Marine Division. He served in the Pacific Campaign and received two Purple Hearts. He is survived by his children, Ann Heuron of Clawson, Daniel Rutledge of Crown Point, IN, Timothy Jeanette Rutledge of Warren, Jane Robert Wyman of Haymarket, VA, Kristina Popkey of Ferndale and Susan Anthony Panella of Royal Oak; brother, Paul Rutledge of Mexico; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Rutledge, on October 24, 2006; and son-in-law, Richard Popkey. Visitation will be Monday 3-8 p.m. and service Tuesday 11 a.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak, with the Rev. Thomas Scherger officiating. Burial will take place at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley.
