Funeral services for Newcastle native, Leota B. Podio, 87, will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, May 15th at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Bollack officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle under direction of Worden Funeral Directors. The family asks for memorial contributions be made to the Weston County Health Services Foundation or Weston Manor Activities Fund in lieu of flowers.
Mrs. Podio died Wednesday at Weston County Health Services.
Leota was born February 18, 1919 at her parents farm on Red Creek, north of Newcastle the daughter of Andrew and Agnes Dominski Wocicki. She was one of eight children. Leota attended the Red Creek County School, later attending school in Newcastle and normal training in Gillette, Wyoming. Leota then taught school at the Novak School.
Leota married Joe Podio on November 24, 1939 and together made their home at Four Corners, Wyoming where they farmed. Three children were born to the couple, Joe Podio, Jr., Shirley Dixon and Robert Podio.
Leota enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandhildren, gardening, and helping on the farm. Leota was a member of the Prairie Pals Card Club; vice president of the Farmer?s Union, Newcastle Retired Teacher?s Association, and also performed janitorial services for several businesses in Newcastle. Joe and Leota moved to Newcastle in 1963 and built a home, they also enjoyed traveling. Mrs. Podio enjoyed walking all over Newcastle.
Survivors include her husband Joe Podio, Sr. of Newcastle, sons Joe Marie Podio, Jr. of Newcastle and Robert Blanche Podio of Pueblo, CO; a daughter Shirley Gideon Dixon of Newcastle. Sisters Francis Leonard Walker of Lewistown, Montana, Ruth Hood of Peoria, Arizona, Ester Lindsey of Greybull, WY and brother Joe Wocicki of Boise, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Thomas, Ted, and Felix.
