Leonard Garhart

Leonard Eugene Gene Garhart, 69, of Osage, WY died Thursday, March 8th at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle, WY.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle on Monday, March 12th at 2:00 pm with Pastor Tommy Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Garhart Family Cemetery in Osage under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Osage Ambulance Service.

Gene was born May 16, 1937 in Blairstown, Missouri, the son of Leonard Clair and Opal Lorean Brengarth Garhart. They moved to Wyoming when Gene was a month old. He was raised and schooled at Lance Creek, WY until 1951 when the family moved to Osage. Gene joined the U.S. Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1961. On January 28, 1962 he married Virginia Anslie at the First United Methodist Church in Newcastle, WY. To this union four children were born. Gene worked in the oil fields around Newcastle and the region. He was employed by Western Production from 1982 until retiring due to health problems in 1993. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating at the lake. He also greatly enjoyed time spent with children and grandchildren. Gene was a 4-H leader in the leather craft while his children were growing up. He was a member of the Osage Community Bible Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one infant sister.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of Osage; two sons Dwight Melissa Garhart of Newcastle, Tony Becky Garhart of Upton, WY, three daughters Donna Davey of Osage, Myrna Garhart Monnie of Lead, SD, and Jodie Chuck Schossow of Casper, WY. Also surviving are two sisters, Marjorie Joe Wood of Osage and Esther Ray Moore of Lance Creek, WY, thirteen Grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
