Kathleen G. "Kay" Houston, age 82, of Royal Oak, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born July 11, 1929 in Detroit. Miss Houston was a member of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Parish for 75 years and attended the parish schools. Her career consisted of being a flight attendant for Pan American Airways, a teacher at St. Anne�s School in Warren, as well as, at Royal Oak Public School, several years as a travel agent at Corporate Travel in Dearborn, and ending with more than 20 years in the Detroit News library. She thoroughly enjoyed the diversity of her career. Miss Houston was a longtime member of the Shrine Love of God Prayer Community, St. Vincent de Paul Shrine group and the Chaplaincy Ministry making hospital visits. She volunteered at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mother & Unborn Baby Care in Southfield, and many other charities too numerous to mention. She loved to travel and attend conferences of all kinds, especially the Charismatic and Spiritual renewal opportunities. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Grace nee Brennan and John Houston; and brother, Fr. Robert Houston. She is survived by her cousins, Patrick Kathy Brennan Hynes and Thomas Shirley Brennan; and by many longtime dear and loving friends. The visitation will be Tuesday 3-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. scripture service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Rd. 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Miss Houston will lie in state Wednesday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at the National Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak.
