Josephine Gibson

Josephine L. Gibson, age 90, of Royal Oak, died April 9, 2009 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born March 4, 1919 in Oxford. Mrs. Gibson lived in Royal Oak since 1947. She graduated from Ypsilanti State Teachers College in 1943, which is now Eastern Michigan University. She taught in the Clawson school system and was a piano teacher for many years. She was also a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Royal Oak. She is survived by her children, James Pamela Gibson of Berkley and Denise Groeller of Royal Oak; sister, June Dawson of Oxford; seven grandchildren; and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Gibson, on September 3, 1997. The couple married November 26, 1943 in California; and her daughter, Janice Zilka. Visitation will be held Monday 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mrs. Gibson will lie in state Tuesday 12:30 p.m. until the time of service 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Royal Oak, with the Rev. Dr. David Nichols officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Oxford Township. Memorials to the First Baptist Church, 309 N. Main Street, Royal Oak, MI 48067.
