SVACHA Jr., Joseph of Macomb, Michigan passed away March 6, 2005; at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Clinton Township. At the age of 83. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 18, 1921; to Clara Weeks and Joseph Svacha. He was the beloved husband of Reina Leduc Svacha married April 14, 1951 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Utica and father of Delpha Joseph Susan Parsley Svacha, Paul Thomas Linda Leduc Savacha, Maria Robert Crothers, and Andre Susan Emerson Svacha. He was also the dearest Grandfather of nine: Brett, Geoffrey, Matthew, Aron, Cassandra Svacha, Jessica and Ashley Jankowiak, Andre II, Kevin Svacha; great grandfather of Xzavier Joseph Jankowiak. Brother of Erma, David, and the late Mabel, Ester, Dorothy, Robert, Donald, Harold, and Arthur Svacha. Joseph Svacha throughout his years was an active member of the American Legion Post 351 of Utica, Michigan; The Seventh District Association, The American Legion National Sgt. At Arms at National Conventions, La Society des Quarante Hommes Et Huit Chevaus 40/8 Voiture 1002, 1061, DAV, VFW Disco Post 4659. Joseph was a retiree of the Ford Motor Co., Sterling Heights plant local 228. He also served as a Cub Scout Leader of Troop 101 of St. Lawrence School. Joseph served in the United States Army in World War II attached to the 35th Division 320th Infantry. During that time he became an escaped POW and received several campaign medals and ribbons. During his service he was a military policeman and patrolled captured territory in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 44633 Utica Road, Utica, Michigan with Father Robert Fisher officiating. Friends may call at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home; 8459 Hall Road, Utica; from 3:00pm - 9:00pm Wednesday; 2:00pm-9:00pm Thursday with a American Legion Service at 7:30pm; 2:00pm-9:00pm Friday with a Rosary at 7:00pm. Additional visitation will be held at church on Saturday from 9:30am until time of Mass at 10:00am. Burial with Army honor guards will be at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Utica, Michigan. Memorials suggested to Sons of American Legion Rainbow Connection, American Childrens Welfare Foundation or U.S.O.
