Joseph J. Fischer, age 88, a resident of Rochester Hills, formerly of Royal Oak, died March 11, 2010 at his home. He was born September 18, 1921 in Ann Arbor. Mr. Fischer was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran. He received his Bachelors of Design and Master's of Education from the University of Michigan. He taught at Dondero High School in Royal Oak for 29 years, until his retirement in 1984. He was a docent at the Cranbrook Institute of Science Museum; a member of the Michigan Botanical Association; member and past president of the Michigan Orchid Society; a life member of the Michigan Education Association and National Education Association; member and past president of the Suburban Association of Retired School Personnel; and a member of the First Congregational Church choir in Royal Oak and served on numerous committees at the church. Mr. Fischer is survived by his daughter, Kim E. Bentz of Frederick, MD, grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, Leah and Erin Bentz and Charlotte Sibley; and great grandson, Matthew Bentz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara M. McKee Fischer, on August 20, 2006; sons, Scott David Fischer and Jon Peter Fischer; and siblings, Florence Emerick, Marion Eiseman and Robert M. Fischer. The visitation will be Tuesday 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. The memorial service will be Wednesday 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Royal Oak, with the Rev. John Miller officiating. The inurnment will take place at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy.
