John Arthur Lansing, age 87, of Royal Oak and Ferndale, passed away May 27, 2014. He was born August 4, 1926 in Peoria, IL to the late Arthur and Dorothy Lansing. He was the dear brother of David Hanne Lansing and the late Dr. Dorothy Robert Penman Lansing; proud uncle of Robert, Nicholas, Emily, Jeff and Malcolm; and many great nieces and nephews. He also will be missed by his life partner, Bill Glace. Mr. Lansing was a 1944 graduate of Royal Oak High School. He attended Purdue University and was a 1948 graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned his degree in architectural engineering. Mr. Lansing retired in 1986 from the Detroit Public Schools, where he was the Director of School Planning. He was a longtime member of Ridgedale Players, Stagecrafters, Michigan Nature Association, Scarab Club, Virginia Tech Alumni Association and AARP. He was a master storyteller. He also was very proud of his Dutch, Irish and Canadian heritage. A memorial celebration will be held at Stagecrafters at the Baldwin Theatre at a later date. Inurnment will take place at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.
