John M. Butala, age 82, of Royal Oak, died June 19, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital in Pontiac. He was born March 17, 1927 in Detroit. Mr. Butala was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak for 56 years. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Jane Butala, whom he married May 4, 1951 in Center Line; children, Kathlyn David Hemming, Timothy Cheryl Butala, Debra Charles Taylor and Kevin Nancy Butala; grandchildren, Kelli Michael Schroeter, Stephanie Taylor, Erin Taylor, Ashley Butala and Breanne Butala; and great grandchildren, Chelsea Schroeter, Dustin Towne, Hanna Schroeter and Kira Schroeter. Visitation will be Monday 2-8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. In state Tuesday 10 a.m. until the time of service 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak, with the Rev. Jim Ackerman officiating. Burial will take place at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy.
