Joan Swan Johns nee Eldridge, age 60, of Bloomfield and formerly of Grosse Pointe, died Saturday, December 20, 2008, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born February 7, 1948, in Detroit. A caring mother, a trusted friend, an advisor with sound judgment, Joanie personified courage and love in life. She battled cancer and in doing so demonstrated great strength and determination to those that surrounded her. She received excellent medical care and when her time had passed, died gracefully. Her smile was her legacy and her final week on earth was no exception. She will be missed. She is survived by her children, Jessica Swan Johns Christopher Layne Teter of St. Louis and Cort Maclean Johns II fiancee, Sara Elizabeth Taylor of Bloomfield; sisters, Eugenia Ulen Ian Ulen of LaJolla, CA and Gail Swan Pollina Dr. Frank Pollina of Bloomfield; and former spouse, Cort Maclean Johns I. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Swan Eldridge and Dorothy Benson Eldridge. Visitation will be 10 am - 1:30 pm at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Ms. Johns will lie in state from 2 pm until time of service 3 pm at Christ Church Cranbrook, 470 Church Road, Bloomfield Hills. The Rev. W. Terry Miller will officiate.
