Jerry D'Ambrosio, age 86, of Royal Oak since 1949, died Monday, November 24, 2008 at Heartland Care Center in West Bloomfield. He was born February 28, 1922 in San Felice Di Vittorio, Italy. Mr. D'Ambrosio retired from the City of Royal Oak in 1981, after 31 years of service. Everyone knew him as the local knife sharpening man in Oakland county. He was referred to as a "self-made man" who enjoyed jokes, puzzles, people and work. He also spoke five languages. His survivors include his wife, Rose D'Ambrosio, whom he married October 12, 1946 in Grosse Pointe; children, Linda Amos Long of Canton Township, Dora Tom Porzondek of Royal Oak, Jerry Joseph D'Ambrosio of Royal Oak, Darlene D'Ambrosio-Ross of Farmington Hills and Joanne Brian Hulett of Huntington Woods; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and his nephew, Angelo D'Ambrosio. Visitation is Friday 3-8 pm with service on Saturday 10 am at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak.
