Jerome D. Vanek, age 92, a resident of Royal Oak since 1926, died September 7, 2009 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born November 16, 1916 in Dubuque, IA. Mr. Vanek was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in the European Campaign and received three battle stars. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in 1965. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Royal Oak since the age of 12, and a 40-year member of the Red Run Golf Club. He is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lyman and Frances Schaaf; and cousin, Gary Vanek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Vanek, in 2003. The visitation will be held Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mr. Vanek will lie in state Wednesday 10:30 a.m. until the time of service 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Royal Oak, with the Rev. Dr. David L. Nichols officiating. The burial will take place at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.
