Janice Lorene Ritter Dummer, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 30, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Janice was born April 22, 1938, to Alfred Oscar and Clara Jeannetta Ritter in Gregory, SD. She attended a rural school northeast of Gregory through 8th grade and received her high school education in Gregory, SD. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, LeRoy Dummer. From this union, they raised four children: Richard LeRoy, Debora Lynn, Carmel Leah, and Rodney Louis.
After their marriage, Janice and LeRoy lived in Edgemont, SD for a short while before moving back to Gregory to the family farm for a few years where Richard and Debora were born. She moved to Springfield, SD while her husband attended college and where Carmel was born. They then moved to Moorcroft, WY where LeRoy taught school and where Rod was born. In 1964, they relocated to Newcastle, where she resided until her death.
Upon moving to Newcastle, she stayed at home with the children until they were in school. Janice then went to work at the high school in the library, then to the high school office until her retirement. Janice was active in many organizations such as Forum Club, a bridge club, and a pinochle club. She loved any activity with family and enjoyed all her many friends and socializing activities. No one ever went hungry when Janice was around.
Janice is survived by her husband, LeRoy, of 65 plus years; children Richard (Monica) Dummer, Debora (Terry) Mills, Carmel (Chris) Tice and Rod (Karen) Dummer; grandchildren Jennifer (Carl) Ullery, Ryan (Brandi) Mills, Kylie (Stefan) Szwarc, Sara (Caleb) Dummer, Amy (Justin) Ciampi, Claire Dummer, and Dan Dummer; great-grandchildren Braeden Ullery, Tyce Mills, Shaye Mills, Rory Mills and Henry Ciampi; sister Elaine Johnston; brother Larry (Gretchen) Ritter; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Monfore and Donna (Don) Johnson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
