Janet Vandine

October 28, 1911 — February 14, 2009

Graveside services for Janet Lorraine Vandine, 97, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 20th at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle with Rev. Eric Parker officiating. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Weston Manor travel fund. Worden Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Vandine died at Weston Manor Nursing Home on February 14, 2009.

Janet was born October 28, 1911 in Douglas, Wyoming the daughter of Benton J. Steffen and Ethel Cook Steffen. She attended schools in Douglas, graduating from high school there. She played piano and organ at the Episcopal Church in Douglas, and later in Newcastle.

In 1936 Janet married B.W. Vandine. The couple traveled Wyoming and other states where her husband Beanie worked road construction. While living in Lakeland, Florida Beanie taught flying to W.W.II pilots. The couple moved to Newcastle, Wyoming in 1942 where B.W. worked at the Newcastle Drug Store before starting his own business, the Weston County Drug Company. Janet and Beanie were owners of the Weston County Drug until Beanie's death in 1983.

The couple enjoyed many trips with their travel trailer to fish and camp. At the age of 56, Janet took up golfing, a sport she continued until she was 79, with two holes-in-one to her credit. Mrs. Vandine had a cheerful heart, and a great sense of humor. Prior to her golfing years she loved to garden, play bridge and dance. She loved to dance. In earlier years she and her husband attended dances at the Roundhouse north of Newcastle and at area facilities such as the Skull Creek Community Hall. As a wife and mother she was entirely devoted to her family.

Janet was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, Newcastle Country Club, and Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #30 of Newcastle.

Surviving her are one son John Vandine and Julia Nelle of Bedford, TX; one daughter Jane Vandine of Santa Cruz, CA; two grandchildren, John Wm. Vandine and Alison Edward Barnes, and one great granddaughter Madeleine Barnes.

Preceding her in death were her husband, B.W Vandine and two sisters, Beatrice and Louise.
