Memorial services for James D. Smith, 54, of Four Corners, Wyoming were held Saturday, July 5th in the side yard at The Country Church at Four Corners, Wyoming with Pastor Charles Dutcher and Pastor Bill Haley officiating. Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle were in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Smith died unexpectedly Monday, June 30th at his home at Four Corners.
James was born December 12, 1953 at Columbus, Ohio the son of James D. and Patricia Martin Smith, Sr. He was a graduate of Gallatin High School of Gallatin, Tennessee. During the Vietnam Conflict J.D. served in Special Forces Green Berets during his tour of duty there. Mr. Smith was also a graduate of University of Alabama where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and later received a Bachelor's Degree in Theory and Concepts of Semiconductor Design from Franklin College of Huntsville, Alabama. He was also the recipient of a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, and a licensed minister. He was employed as a computer specialist and programmer/developer for Computer Sciences Corporation. He was the owner of four U. S. Patents, and taught computer sciences at Newcastle's Community Education College at no charge to those attending.
J.D. met Barbara in Roswell, New Mexico where they were married April 29, 1995. The couple lived in Roswell for five years, moving to Memphis, Tennessee for three years before they moved to Four Corners, Wyoming where they have lived for the past fifteen years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and reading, cave exploring and climbing.
He loved his family with all his heart. He was a very loving man. There wasn't anything he would not do for anyone. He wanted to be remembered as a man that gave of himself. He taught that concept to everyone he met. He touched many lives along his path. He was a very God fearing man and loved the Lord with all his heart. He taught bible study out of the Hebrew and Greek bible, was a scholar in Hebrew and Greek, and was able to speak seven different languages. He was always learning. We will truly miss you Daddy. He always said; "what ever you do in life, do the best at it you can".
Surviving him are his wife Barbara G. Smith, two daughters, Betty A. Murry of Marfa, TX and Tiffany D. Smith of Las Vegas, NM, one son Tony Smith; three sisters Judy Irby of Nashville, TN, Shirley Futon of Columbus, OH, Marion Meeks of Columbus, OH. Also surviving are grandchildren Beverley Wright, Raven Murry, Random Murry and Corwin Murry, Jasmin Ortega, Breanna Ortega, Brandon Ortega and Jason Ortega, Jr.
