James E. Marshall, age 84, of Southfield, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was born September 17, 1923 in Canton, Ohio. While Mr. Marshall was employed at Mattel, Inc. he invented the talking Barbie and was on the original team for Hot Wheels. He worked at Ford Motor Co. and was credited with numerous patents. He was also formerly employed by Lionel Trains, Rainbird Sprinklers and Brunswick. He is survived by his children, Gail Scot Stevens, Tamara Robert Taylor, David Patricia Marshall, Michael Keri Marshall, Christopher Marshall; Nine grandchildren; Seven great grandchildren; Two brothers and one sister. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Marshall; a son, John Marshall and one brother.
