James Caldwell

August 10, 1923 — February 16, 2010

James W. Caldwell, age 86, a resident of Rochester Hills, formerly of Royal Oak, died February 16, 2010 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born August 10, 1923 in Imlay City. Mr. Caldwell was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific as a pilot. He was a lifelong pianist, piano teacher and piano tuner. He was the organist at the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. He also played the organ at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home in Royal Oak for 39 years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen E. Jones Caldwell; the couple married January 19, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN; children, Peggy Patrick Dennen of White Lake, MI, Stephen Brenda Caldwell, D.D.S. of Derry, NH, Daniel Jeri Caldwell of Whittaker, MI, Robert fiancée Katherine Pena Caldwell of Belmont, CA and Catherine Greg Boyd of Royal Oak, MI; grandchildren, Jennifer Sztumerski, Michael, Elena, James and Lindsay Caldwell; and great grandchildren, Alex, Samantha and Travis. The visitation will be Thursday 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mr. Caldwell will lie in state Friday 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass 10 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon, Birmingham. The burial will take place at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.
