James F. Behrendt, 87, of Troy, died March 3, 2008, at Cherrywood Nursing Center in Sterling Heights. He was born Dec. 21, 1920 in Ferndale. Mr. Behrendt was born and raised in Ferndale and graduated from St. James High School. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific. He retired in 1982 from the Burroughs Corp. after 37 years of service. Mr. Behrendt served as the Grand Knight in the Bishop Gallagher Knights of Columbus council in Royal Oak and was a faithful navigator in the 4th degree K of C. He was also an avid bowler and enjoyed all sports. Mr. Behrendt is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Nye Behrendt, whom he married Nov. 18, 1944, at St. James Catholic Church in Ferndale; children, Barbara Ann Tasca of Norwich, CT, Patricia Marie Robert Booth of Commerce Twp., MI, and Cynthia Jean George Lake of Troy, MI; brother, Alexander Marjorie Behrendt of Indiana; sisters-in-law, Helen Bourgeois, Joanne Jim Bettis and Connie Perry; grandchildren, Michelle Illinger, Jennifer Wadsworth, Brian LaBelle, Keith Lake, Michael Lake and Shannon Fulton; and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. Behrendt was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters; brother-in-law, Robert Perry; and son, James E. Behrendt.
