James Allan, age 84, a resident of Royal Oak, died Saturday, August 27, 2011. He was born to the late David and Christina Allan, January 24, 1927, in Detroit. He grew up in Scotland where he met his wife, Evelyn McCartney. They were married on December 31, 1948, and lived together in Royal Oak. James is survived by his sister, Anne Henderson Allan of Royal Oak and brother, David Allan of Ventura, CA; and was predeceased by his sister, Jane Kerr Wittle. James had six children with Evelyn. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jane Louise Allan; and is survived by James Cheri Allan, Catherine Gerald McConnell, David Allan, Deborah Richard Nagel and Patricia Anne Allan. James is survived by 11 grandchildren, Robert Allan, Scott McConnell, Shannon Dave Schrepferman, Jacob Robin Nagel, Jordan Kayla Nagel, Shawn Kristin McConnell, Patrick Nagel, Lisa Matt Hurd, Nolan Allan, Evan Allan and Emma Andrews; 12 great grandchildren, River, Katie, Wyatt, Hunter, Gracyn, Laney, Molly, Quinton, Maggie, Matilda, Lochlyn and Hudson; and also by many nieces and nephews. James served in the British Merchant Navy and the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1943-1947. James worked in the tool and die industry for 47 years. After retiring, he enjoyed spending his time with family and fishing on his boat. He also enjoyed traveling to numerous baseball stadiums watching the Tigers play with his family, and visiting Scotland with his wife. Nothing made him happier then attending special events that his grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in. He also was a member of the Canadian Legion. There will be memorial visitation Wednesday 2 p.m. until the time of service 4 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak, with the Rev.
