Irene Reed, age 96, died October 27, 2012. She was born August 1, 1916 in Detroit. Irene Reed had a remarkably long and healthy life. Married to William T. Reed, a business owner and professional engineer for 58 years, who died in 1995, she was a devoted wife and mother of ten. They were long-time residents of Royal Oak and parishioners of St. Mary's Catholic Church. All ten children attended St. Mary's Grade School and High School. Irene loved visits to and from family and friends. She did not take up driving until she was 40, but once behind the wheel, she was hooked - she loved long drives. She prepared many a great Sunday dinner; it was a delicious ritual made with great care. Getting the twelve of us at one sitting was a feat of wonder, laughter and joy. She was proud of her good cooking. Throughout her life, she kept her good looks and her glowing complexion. She lived independently into her 90's at The Meadows in Auburn Hills and was well cared for in her last years at Lourdes Nursing Home in Waterford. She was the loving mother of Sue Ann, Dan Barbara, Alice, Catherine, Mary, Thomas, Jerry, the late Margaret, Leo and Robert; proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. The visitation will be Friday 3-8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. Rosary, at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mrs. Reed will lie in state Saturday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Royal Oak. The burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
