Howard A. Bitzer, age 88, a resident of Royal Oak since 1953, formerly of Ecorse, died July 21, 2010 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born November 3, 1921 in Ecorse. Mr. Bitzer retired in 1984 from Holly Carburetor, as an assistant purchasing agent, after 42 years of service. He was a Bible teacher for more than 60 years of both children and adults. He served on the board for Praise Unlimited Christian Library at the study center in Clawson. He was an Elder at Emmanuel Bethel Church. He also loved golfing and camping. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Ruth Bowen Bitzer, whom he married December 7, 1962 in Center Line; daughter, Susie Bitzer of Ann Arbor; brother, Earl Betty McDonald of Ocala, FL; and his faithful companion, Annie. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Bitzer; and brothers, John Bitzer and George Bitzer. The visitation will be held Friday 2-8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mr. Bitzer will lie in state Saturday 11 a.m. until the time of service 11:30 a.m. at Emmanuel Bethel Church in Royal Oak, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Earle Lloyd officiating.
