Henry N. Stephenson, M.D. 84, of Newcastle passed away on September 6th, 2008 at Weston County Health Services. Funeral services are to be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 224 West Road in Newcastle at 1:30 pm Wednesday, September 10th. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial in Dr. Stephenson's name has been established at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newcastle.
Henry Norman Stephenson, Jr. was born November 8, 1923 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Henry N. Stephenson, Sr. and Ella Henker Stephenson. He attended schools in LaCrosse graduating fro High School in 1941. He attended LaCrosse State Teachers College from 1941a�"1943. In 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was enrolled at the University of Wisconsina�"Madison, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1948, and graduated with his M.D. in 1950. After interning at the University of Oregon Hospital, Portland, 1950a�"51, he moved to Onalaska, Wisconsin, where he was in general practice from 1951a�"52. From 1952a�"1954 Dr. Stephenson served as a commissioned officer in the Public Health Service serving in Tacoma and Nespelem, Washington. In 1954 Dr. Stephenson came to Newcastle and practiced medicine as a partner in the Newcastle Clinic until his retirement in September of 1986.
While in college he met Margaret French. They were married in 1944 and had two children, Deborah Lynn in 1947 and Thor Eric in 1955. Margaret passed away in 1958. Henry later married RoseMarie Rieger and to this union, a son, Norman John was born in 1961. In 1974 Carol Delahoyde Anderson, whom he called "his favorite lady," became his wife. They were married for 34 years.
Dr. Stephenson was greatly involved in his community and state. He served on the Governor's Advisory Committee for Comprehensive Health Planning for Medical Assistance and was President of the Wyoming Medical Society. Dr. Stephenson also served two terms as Mayor of Newcastle. He was the County Health Officer for almost 50 years and was a charter member of the Board of Directors for the Northern Wyoming Mental Health Center.
Dr. Stephenson is survived bi his wife Carol of Newcastle; children Deborah and husband Louis Sarabia of Las Cruces, NM; Thos and wife Rhonda of Rock Springs, WY; Norm and wife Susan of Scottsbluff, NE; two step children, Gary Anderson and wife Marcie of Seminole, Florida; and Teresa and husband John Dominik of Boise, ID. Dr. Stephenson also had twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Candace Helgeson, and his first wife Margaret.
