Helen D. Waldrop, age 88, formerly a resident of Royal Oak, died December 11, 2010 at Arden Courts in Livonia. She was born January 15, 1922 in Knoxville, TN. Mrs. Waldrop lived in Royal Oak from 1950-2008 before moving to Livonia. She received her bachelors degree in home economics from the University of Tennessee. She taught at the Franklin Settlement School in Detroit. She also worked at the law office of her husband, Neal A. Waldrop & Associates, P.C. Mrs. Waldrop was an avid golfer, and a five-time champion of the ladies golf tournament at the Detroit Golf Club. She was also active as a Girl Scout Leader and taught water safety and canoeing. She is survived by her husband, Neal A. Waldrop; the couple married August 17, 1946 in Knoxville; children, Neal A. Vanessa Waldrop III of Derwood, MD, Stephen D. Waldrop of South Lyon, MI, Philip G. Waldrop of Brooklyn, NY and Allison Mark Miller of Eagleville, PA; and grandchildren, Charmaine and Kirk Waldrop, Meghan Aaron Waldrop-Ruby, Michael Waldrop, Cate, Peter Katie and Ben Waldrop, Clare and Bridget Miller. The visitation will be Thursday 2-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. scripture service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mrs. Waldrop will lie in state Friday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. The burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.
