Helen Rose

August 7, 1913 — March 10, 2006

Funeral services for Newcastle resident Helen D. Rose, 92, will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 14th at Worden Chapel with Pastor Mick Bohn of Newcastle Foursquare Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Rose died Friday, March 10th at Rapid Regional Hospital.
Helen was born August 7, 1913 at Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska the daughter of William and Lillie Martens Harmon. At the age of six she moved to Clarke, Nebraska where her parents had bought their own farm. She attended rural schools and graduated from Clarke High School. On April 18, 1939 she married Fred R. Rose at Wray, Colorado. The Rose?s moved to Wyoming in 1941 and lived on a ranch west of Newcastle until the death of her husband in 1970. Following her husband?s death, Helen bought a home in Newcastle where she has since resided. Mrs. Rose attended Normal School at Spearfish, South Dakota receiving a college degree in 1961, and continued her education at Black Hills Teacher?s college through the 1980?s receiving her Masters Degree in Education. She had been a teacher in the Weston County Schools for thirty seven years. The last twenty years plus had been at the Gertrude Burns Elementary School in Newcastle as a first grade teacher. She retired from teaching in 1983. Helen enjoyed reading, shopping at Pamida?s and making scarves with her knitting board.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the American Association of Retired People, and the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a son Fred D. ?Bud? Rose, Jr. of Newcastle, Wyoming, two grandsons, William P. Rose, Jr. and Shawn A. Rose. Nieces Ariel Jacobson of Gillette, Wyoming, Pauline Plunkett of Ft. Worth, Texas; and nephew George S. Warner of Osage, Wyoming.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one son William P. Rose, and one brother Warren Harmon.
