Helen Bierlein

HELEN C. BIERLEIN, 87, formerly of Shelby Township, died Saturday, July 15, 2006 in her apartment at the Kingston Residence of Perrysburg near her family in Ohio. She was born Helen C. Block on March 1, 1919 in Frankenmuth, Michigan and was married for 57 years to her dear husband, Arnold, who died in 2004. Mrs. Bierlein served her Lord as a dedicated homemaker and an active member of her church. She enjoyed baking and sharing her delightful treats with family and friends, especially cookies at Christmas time. She also did needlework and other crafts. She was always involved with activities at Trinity Lutheran Church---leading a prayer group or Bible study, participating in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, helping with a nursing home ministry and various other projects, and singing in the Senior Choir for some 40 years. In 1993, she was honored as Woman of the Year at Trinity for her many service efforts. She had an abiding commitment to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and sought to share his love in whatever she did. She is survived by her son, the Rev. Paul Marlene Bierlein; her grandsons, Matthew Bierlein of Columbus, Ohio and Jeremy Bierlein of Shakopee, Minn., and her dear great-grandchildren, Ethan, Sophie and Micah. She also has a sister, Renata Otto Hetzner and a brother, Reinhold Block, living in Frankenmuth and sister in law Xandria Block. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Arnold; parents, Ludwig and Emma Weber Block and a brother, Rudolph Block. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19th, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 45160 Van Dyke, Utica. Burial will be in Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park East Cemetery, Macomb Township. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd., Utica and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour or to a charity of the donor's choice.
