Harry Habeck

March 6, 1927 — June 10, 2006

Funeral services for Harry W. Habeck, 79, will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 14th at Christ the King Lutheran Church with Rev. John Hopper officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota with military graveside rites. There will be no visitation. The family suggests memorial contributions to Christ the King Church in lieu of flowers.

Mr. Habeck died Saturday, June 10th at Rapid Regional Hospital.

Harry was born March 6, 1927 at Eagle Butte, SD to Herman and Anna Christensen Habeck, the third of six children.

The family later moved to the rural area around Sundance, Wyoming in 1929. In 1938 the family moved to the Sturgeon Lake area in Minnesota. After graduating High School at Moose Lake in 1944, Harry immediately enlisted in the Service. He served in Europe in the Army of Occupation. He remained in the Reserves, therefore serving in Korea in 1951 and 1952. He was on Old Baldy and Heartbreak Ridge. Harry was a Technical Sergeant in charge of supply. After returning to the States he received the Distinguished Service Medal for services over and above the call of duty.

He was the owner of Sundance Plumbing and Heating for over fifty years, first in Sundance, Wyoming and for the last twenty seven years in Newcastle, Wyoming.

He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars #4311, and Newcastle Lions Club. He was also an avid golfer; He really enjoyed singing in the Church choir.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Elizabeth June Peterson Habeck of Newcastle, son Robert W. Tami Habeck, sister Shirley Knight of Vancouver, Washington, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sisters Ethel, Mae, and Brothers Jim and Harvey.
