Services for Harold J. Eatherton will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 29th at First Baptist Church in Newcastle with Pastor Gary Anderson officiating.
Harold James Eatherton passed away October 24th, 2009. He was 71 years old, born on August 1st, 1938 in Whitewood, S.D., the sixth child and only son to Harold T. Eatherton and Viva L. Jelley. They made their home on the family farm until moving to Newcastle, WY. in the year 1944.
Harold attended school in Newcastle and graduated in 1956. He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany working in communications. He was honorably discharged in 1959.
He returned to Newcastle where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for most of his adult life. He said he learned from a good teacher, Bill Burke.
He married Norma Bonner and to this union was born one daughter, LaDawn. They were later divorced.
He met Elta in 1962, and they were later married July 26th, 1969 in deadwood, S.D.
He is survived by his loving wife Elta, son Tim Martin of Gillette, daughters Laurie Martin of Newcastle, LaDawn Stringer of Texas, and Janet Robert S. Fawcett of Bar Nunn, Wyoming, five sisters Helen Ray Wolfe of Hamilton, MT., Betty Titchener of Littleton, CO., Caroline Bryant Lee of Sydney, MT., Alyce Knigge of Belle Fourche, SD., and Jean Stepusin of Newcastle.
Also surviving are nine grand children and two great grand children, numerous brothers and sisters in-law, and many, many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister Leona, and three brothers in-law.
Harold was one of a kind and they must have thrown away the pattern after he came along.
He always said if something wasn?t circulating by 8:00 a.m., you should start something. He was witty to the max and a lot of fun.
He died doing what he loved in a place he loved with someone he really loved, his grandson Nick. I don?t think he wanted the ?wily wapiti? as much as a chance to spend quality time in a wonderful place enjoying the outdoors. He was a true outdoorsman.
In-lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
