A time of friends and fellowship followed. The family suggests memorial contributions to Susan G. Komen "for the cure" PO Box 20594, Cheyenne, WY 82003.
Mrs. Quick died July 7th at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle following a lengthy illness.
Gwen was born April 13, 1959 at Kittery Maine the daughter of Harold A. and Marguerite L. Chevalier Osborne. She lived in France and several areas in the United States because of her father's military career. Gwen and her family became long time residents of Rapid City where she graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1977. Following graduation she traveled to Utica, NY where she enrolled in business classes at Herckamer Community College in White Plains, NY. She graduated from Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD with a Bachelor's Degree in Education focusing on special education that was important to her heart.
Gwen was employed by the Arco Black Thunder Coal Mine near Wright, WY where she worked for 10 years as a computer operator. She was also employed by Donna's Diner in Newcastle where she enjoyed meeting and greeting anyone who was passing through town, meeting them with a smile.
While employed at Black Thunder Mine she met Coy Hamby whom she later married. From this union was born her daughter Michelle. Gwen also helped raise Coy's children Christopher and Jennifer whom she also loved. Coy and Gwen locally owned the Corner Bar and Don's Water Service where they made life long friends throughout the community.
Mrs. Quick took great pride in her family and home. Gwen enjoyed being outside, camping, boating and water skiing. Her recent thrill was learning how to ride a motorcycle and a week later riding it to the west coast. She enjoyed cooking, but her culinary experience was limited. She will forever be known for having over done caramel rolls that could break your tooth, or forgetting to take the cardboard out from under the pizza before baking it. In October, 2007 her life would be forever changed when she was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. On this journey she met some of the most devoted people she could have imagined. The people who encouraged her and touched her heart the most were her family, friends, medical staff, patients, cancer survivors and strangers who showed their support. Gwen's life was made beautiful with her best friend of four years, lover and now husband when she married David Quick three short weeks ago on June 14th at Roughlock Falls in Spearfish Canyon, SD with family and friends by her side. She enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon at her father's home in Jacksonville, FL.
Surviving her is her husband David Quick of Newcastle; children Michelle Lewis of Newcastle, Christopher and Jennifer Hamby both of Las Vegas, NV. Her mother Marguerite Osborne of Rapid City, SD; father and stepmother Harold and Bonnie Osborne of Jacksonville, FL; brother Aubry Osborne of Cheyenne, WY; and sister Gaelle Chleborad of Rapid City, SD. Also surviving are two grandchildren on the way and several nieces and nephews.
