Attorney. Admitted to practice June 24, 1943 after graduation from U of D Law School. U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korea, rising to position of Operations Officer aboard the U.S.S. Forrest Royal DD872. Former Chairman, Conservation Law Committee of State Bar of Michigan, later charter member of Governing Council of Environmental Law Section of State Bar; Special Assistant Attorney General, Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund 1968-1983. First associated with attorney Carl F. Leithauser from whom Tobias received his early training in downtown Detroit; afterwards longtime partner with John M. Sweeney. In 1977 Tobias organized and was one of the three original incorporators of the family foundation, Laboratory for Education and Research in Neuroscience. Survivors include wife, Genevieve "Jean" Makowski - retired clerk for judge of 36th District Court and son, Thomas J. Tobias, Ph.D., M.D. In state Tuesday 9 a.m. until time of Mass 10 a.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration, 25225 Code Road Southfield 48034.
