George W. "Bill" Golder, age 88, a long-time resident of Shelby Township died Wednesday, January 5, 2011. He was born June 21, 1922 in Warley, Worcestshire, England to the late William and Mildred Golder. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Fannie , his two sons David Adrienne and William Susan, and grandchildren Claire and Coleton. He served his native country England proudly during World War II as a member of the Royal Air Force. After the war, he and Fannie married in 1949 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1953. He became a U.S. citizen in 1964. He spent his career as a hard working and talented toolmaker, working in both the automotive and toy manufacturing industry. He was always known by his employers and co-workers as a man with high integrity, a tenacious work ethic and a focus on quality. After his love for family, he had a passion for gardening with Fannie in the summer and maintaining their beautiful English garden setting in the backyard. He had a natural social ability to build relationships with anyone, often making fast friends with neighbors and those working in the retail stores he frequented. He and Fannie hosted many of the family gatherings and he always loved a party, especially if it included English folk song sing-a-longs. He was devoted to his family, always the first to help and was genuinely happiest when sharing and giving to others.
He will always be remembered as a joyful and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
