George E. Fooks, 89, of Oak Park, died March 4, 2008 at Hilton Convalescent Center in Ferndale. He was born July 2, 1918 in Detroit. Mr. Fooks retired in 1987 from the Detroit News composing room after 17 years of service. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Royal Oak American Legion Post 225 and the Detroit Typographical Union 18 CWA. Mr. Fooks was predeceased by his wife, Betty Fooks in 1998; son, George F. Fooks in 1991; parents, Albert and Annie Fooks; and sister, Margaret Youmans. He is survived by his children, Gerald Williamson of Toledo, OH, Judith Williamson of Ferndale, MI, and Jeffrey Fooks of Oak Park, MI; grandchildren, Anthony, Michelle and Kurtis; and great grandchildren, Chase, Audry and Ella Grace.
