Frank M. Scherer, Jr., age 89, a resident of Royal Oak, died December 22, 2010 at Cambridge North Healthcare Center in Clawson. He was born January 20, 1921 in Detroit. Mr. Scherer lived in Royal Oak and south Oakland County most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as an Armament Officer for the P-47 Squadron. He was a graduate of the General Motors Institute, and retired in 1982 from Chevrolet Engineering in Warren after 25 years of service. He was a member of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Parish and Usher's Club and the GM Camping Club. He was an avid reader, loved music and spending time with his family. Mr. Scherer is survived by his wife, Theresa R. Moroski Scherer; the couple married July 26, 1952; children, Frank Rita Scherer III of Glendale, AZ, Alison Frank Dawley of Royal Oak and Susan Elwood of Hazel Park; sisters, Marie Kennedy of Apopka, FL and Jeanette Joe Karr of Rochester Hills; and five grandchildren. The visitation will be Monday 4-9 p.m. and Tuesday 3-9 p.m. with a scripture service Tuesday 7 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mr. Scherer will lie in state Wednesday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. The burial will take place at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.
