Faye Childs

April 7, 1916 — June 10, 2006

Funeral services for Faye Vincent Childs, 90, will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 16th at Worden Chapel with Rev. Randy Fowler of Upton First Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Upton or Weston County Manor in Newcastle. Contributions may be sent in care of Jerry Childs, PO Box 76, Osage, WY. 82723.

Mrs. Childs passed away Saturday, June 10th after a long illness at the Weston County Manor.

Faye was born April 7, 1916 in Goodson, Missouri the daughter of James and Julia Roundtree Vincent.

She was the salutatorian of her high school graduating class of 1933 and received a two year scholarship to Southwest Baptist College, Faye went on to earn a third grade teacher?s certificate in 1935. Her teaching skills were well served when she home schooled her three children for several years on the Weston County Ranch. Her sister Marjorie met and married Clarence Cotton and on a visit to Newcastle, Faye met and fell in love with a young cowboy named Joe Childs. They were married on September 20, 1940. They ranched and raised their family on a ranch 40 miles west of Newcastle on Rock Creek. They later moved to Osage where they lived until recently.

Faye was a devote Christian and a member of the Baptist Church since childhood; First Baptist Church of Upton was her home church for years until her illness. Faye took pride in her flower garden, canning, cooking, quilting, and in her bible study. Her choke cherry jelly was a favorite with family and friends. She devoted her life to being a mother, grandmother, and homemaker.

Survivors include her husband Joe Childs to whom she was married for 65 years; two sons Stuart and his wife Pat of Casper, WY and Jerry Childs and his wife Judie of Osage, WY; one daughter, Jacqueline Cooper of Palm Desert, CA. Also surviving are five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Sisters Marjorie Cotton, Elizabeth Fulton, and an infant sister.
