Dunlop, F. James, age 81 of Sterling Heights passed away April 18, 2012 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. He was born April 8, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan. Beloved husband of 60 years Eileen Kanthook. Dear father of James Cindy Dunlop, Susan Cencioni and David Shawn Dunlop. Loving grandfather of Rebecca Greg Singleton, Chrys Cencioni, Jimmy Dunlop, Joseph Cencioni, Daniel Dunlop, Emily Cencioni, Jacob Christina Dunlop, David Amber Dunlop, Jonathon Dunlop and Rachel Dunlop. Loving great grandfather of Cole and Matthew Singleton. Dear brother of Joyce Schobloher, Patricia Sexton and the late Gerald. Jim was a member of Shepherd's Gate Lutheran Church, Shelby Twp. He served as a catechism teacher and was on the church's Christian Care Ministry. For over 50 years he served his church and the community, serving in leadership roles, as a volunteer on several Boards, Commissions and organizations.
Jim retired from General Motors, Fisher Body in 1983 after 31 years where he began as a UAW Journeyman Toolmaker and later became a Senior Production Engineer and Senior Manufacturing Project Engineer. He served in the United States Naval Reserve for eight years and was Honorably Discharged as an ETS3. Jim was a visionary in founding the City of Sterling Heights in 1968. He served as the first Mayor Pro-Tem. He continued to serve on the City Council from 1968 to 1977. A strong believer in the sanctity of life, Jim was instrumental in establishing Compassion Pregnancy Center in 1994. He acted upon the visions the Lord gave him and united with fellow Christians in this endeavor. A memorial service honoring the life and faith of Jim will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 23, 2012 at Shepherd's Gate Lutheran Church, 12400 23 Mile Rd., Shelby Twp. with Pastor Craig officiating. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 A.M. Monday.
