Funeral services for Eugene E. Mahoney, 82, will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, July 17th at Worden Chapel with Rev. Norm Brotzman of the Assembly Of God Church officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. A memorial has been established.
Mr. Mahoney died Sunday, July 13th at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Sheridan, Wyoming.
Gene was born October 9, 1925 in Eureka, Kansa the son of William A. and Myrtle M. Gottsch Mahoney, and was the 2nd of three children. He grew up during the depression in Gage, Oklahoma. After completing high school he followed the wheat harvest to the state of Washington. When the family passed through Wyoming he knew right then, this was where he wanted to be. After the harvest he joined the U. S. Navy and became a highly decorated World War II veteran. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Wyoming. He began working in the oil fields of Wyoming and Montana.
On September 4, 1955 he married LuElla Simmons of Newcastle. Later in 1957 they purchased their South Dakota ranch and began their family which grew to become three children, Danny, Debbie and David. Gene has a tremendous work ethic and was able to add to the ranch and cow herd. He was very supportive of his children's endeavors.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, and his wife.
Surviving him are sons Danny Mahoney of Kaycee, Wyoming, David Mahoney and family of Eaton, Colorado, and Debbie Emmert and Family of Hamilton, Montana. Five grandchildren also survive him.
