Eleanore Schaper

March 22, 1923 — August 21, 2013

Eleanore "Ely" Schaper, age 90, a resident of Royal Oak, MI died August 21, 2013. She was born March 22, 1923 in Saginaw, MI to the late Walter and Frieda Kluck. She was baptized, confirmed and married in Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Saginaw. She married Jack F. Schaper on May 6, 1944 and moved to Royal Oak, where they spent the remainder of their lives. Jack went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2001. They were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak their entire married lives. Eleanore was an avid bridge player and played several times a week. She accumulated 8000 volunteer hours working at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, mostly for the Center for Human Development, where they all loved her dearly. At St. Paul, she was on the bulletin committee and the funeral luncheon committee. She loved walking/hiking and until she broke her legs would easily walk 3-4 miles a day. When Jack was still alive, they took many wonderful vacations to unusual/exotic destinations. However, her greatest passion was being with her family. She especially loved Wednesday morning breakfasts and listening to the bantering between Reid and Bradley. Also, Sunday dinners with euchre games and the nightly 5 p.m. phone calls from Jeanette and other calls from her grandchildren. Eleanore will be remembered for her kindness to all and empathy to those in need. She is survived by her children, Susan Beyerlein of Royal Oak, Bradley Schaper of Royal Oak and Jeanette Mark Knoph of Marion, MI; grandchildren, Kraig Kerri Engelhardt Beyerlein of South Bend, IN, Reid Scott Foltz Beyerlein of Beverly Hills, MI, Robert Rachael Knoph of Joelton, TN and Katie Jacob Cunha of Anchorage, Alaska; great-grandchildren, Lukas and Miles Beyerlein of South Bend, IN; brothers, Edward Kluck, Harold Kluck and Jerry dec. Sally Kluck, all from Saginaw; and also several cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful neighbors and friends. The visitation will be Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday 3-8 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Eleanore will lie in state Tuesday 10 a.m. until the time of the service 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Royal Oak. Burial at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley.
