Eileen J. Luczyk Nichols, 71, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, February 14, 2009. She was the loving mother of Peg Marian Danowski, Kate James Rybicki and John Rebecca Nichols. She will be greatly missed by her eight grandchildren, Eric, John and Alex Danowski; Patrick, Charlie and Sabrina Rybicki; and Jacob and Jack Nichols. Eileen was born and raised in Detroit, attended Visitation High School, the University of Detroit and earned her degree from Oakland University. She served in human resources at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac from 1972-1989. She continued her career in human resources at Providence Hospital in Southfield from 1989-1999. After retiring in 1999, Eileen devoted countless hours as a volunteer at Common Ground Sanctuary. She was a docent at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church and the Detroit Institute of Arts, and volunteered at several Detroit-based soup kitchens. She deeply loved and appreciated her family and friends. She loved learning, music, movies and theatre, enjoyed time in her garden and treasured her frequent trips to Stratford. She played fair, listened carefully, laughed a lot, and bounced back. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. East of Woodward, Royal Oak, MI 48067. Eileen will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass 10 a.m. at the National Shrine of the Little Flower, 2100 W. Twelve Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI 48073.
