Beloved wife of Deborah. Proud father of Sandra Newell, James Shirley, Angela Adams and Matthew. Step-father of Amira Mansour, Fatima Mansour and Ali Mansour. Loving son of Esther and the late Edward. Dear papa of Joshua, Melinda, Nicole, Brittany, Luke, Sierra, Mason and Jacob. Great grandfather of Cash. Brother of Sharon Patrick Hagen, Deborah Dr. Kenneth Granke and the late William.
Ed worked as a civilian for the Army for 34 years at the Tank-Automotive Command in Warren. He was a tremendous advocate for worker's rights and the labor movement. His inspirational dedication and commitment to cause made a widespread impact. Ed was an extraordinary activist and organizer for his local union AFGE 1658, the Michigan AFL-CIO and the AFGE National. He played an intregal role in numerous political campaigns and legislative actions. In his personal time, Ed enjoyed his home on Dixie Lake and boating, fishing and swimming. He also loved to travel and spend time with his family. Ed was a true Detroiter, having lived in the city most of his life and was an avid Detroit sports fan. Most of all, he was deeply loved by his family, friends, co-workers, and all the lives he touched.
Visitation Saturday 6-8 pm and Sunday 3 pm until the time of the funeral at 6 pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. 4 blks. E. of Woodward, Royal Oak. Interment All Saints Cemetery, Waterford. Memorial contributions to MI AFL-CIO, Michigan Humane Society or Henry Ford West Bloomfield, Dept. of Radiation Oncology are appreciated.
