Dorothy Stayman

Dorothy McHale Stayman, age 91, a 15-year resident of Clawson, formerly a 40-year resident of Novi, died August 26, 2011 at Cambridge North Healthcare Center in Clawson. She was born February 25, 1920 in Detroit to the late Arthur and Hattie McHale. Mrs. Stayman graduated from the U of M School of Dental Hygiene in 1938. She was employed as a dental hygienist in Detroit for Dr. Orleman. She was the president of the Detroit District and Michigan State Dental Hygiene Society in 1944, and inducted into the U of M Emeritus in June 1988. She was the longtime treasurer of the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament Guild in Farmington Hills. Mrs. Stayman enjoyed tracking her family ancestry and was instrumental in keeping of the spirit of the McHale Family Christmas Reunion. In her leisure time, she was an avid reader. She is survived by her husband, Marvin J. Stayman; the couple married July 10, 1943 in Riverside, CA; children, Susan Ronald Stayman-Stempky of Clawson, Mary Stayman-Schenk of Allegan, MI and Joseph M. Cheryl Stayman of Traverse City; brother, James Dolores McHale of St. Clair Shores; and grandchildren, Christopher, Randall and Robin Schenk, Emily and Cara Stempky, Elizabeth and Sarah Stayman. The visitation will be Sunday 2-7 p.m. and Monday 3-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. scripture service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mrs. Stayman will lie in state Tuesday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Royal Oak. The burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Royal Oak.
